These boundaries are to be used by Government of Alberta field staff and industry, as described in the Alberta Decontamination Protocol for Watercraft & Equipment. Confirmed Red Zones are zones with CFIA confirmed positive testing for whirling disease and are based on a HUC 10 level as found in the HUC Watersheds of Alberta dataset. Irrigation Red Zones are similar to confirmed red zones, however are based on Irrigation District boundaries and only apply to irrigation canals.Yellow Zones represent high to moderate risk for the introduction/spread of whirling disease due to one or more of the following criteria: susceptible salmonid species present, high recreational activity/use and access to water, and high population base. White Zonesdo not have any confirmed cases of whirling disease and represent lower risk due to lower population base and less activity/use. purpose: Whirling Disease Decontamination Zones are boundaries created for Government of Alberta field staff in an attempt to minimize the chance of spreading whirling disease. Whirling disease has no impact on human health, but has become an issue for fisheries management in Alberta. Infectious whirling disease spores can be transmitted to other waterbodies through fish and fish parts, and gear or equipment that can transport infected water or mud, and these boundaries represent areas of disease risk and the level of cleaning required to minimize disease transfer. status: MD_ProgressCode: onGoing pointOfContact: CI_ResponsibleParty: organisationName: Alberta Environment and Parks positionName: Whirling Disease Program, Fish and Wildlife Policy Branch contactInfo: CI_Contact: address: CI_Address: deliveryPoint: 10155 102 St NW, 24th Floor Commerce Place city: Edmonton administrativeArea: Alberta postalCode: T5J 4G8 country: Country: CA electronicMailAddress: aep.whirl@gov.ab.ca hoursOfService: 8:15am - 4:30pm contactInstructions: Monday to Friday role: CI_RoleCode: pointOfContact resourceMaintenance: MD_MaintenanceInformation: maintenanceAndUpdateFrequency: MD_MaintenanceFrequencyCode: notPlanned maintenanceNote: These zone boundaries are reviewed and updated by the whirling disease program when laboratory test results detect whirling disease in wild fish samples. contact: CI_ResponsibleParty: organisationName: Alberta Environment and Parks positionName: Whirling Disease Program, Fish and Wildlife Policy Branch contactInfo: CI_Contact: address: CI_Address: deliveryPoint: 10155 102 St NW, 24th Floor Commerce Place city: Edmonton administrativeArea: Alberta postalCode: T5J 4G8 country: Country: CA electronicMailAddress: aep.whirl@gov.ab.ca hoursOfService: 8:15am - 4:30pm contactInstructions: Monday to Friday role: CI_RoleCode: originator descriptiveKeywords: MD_Keywords: keyword: Alberta, Canada, Bow River, North Saskatchewan River, Oldman River, Red Deer River type: MD_KeywordTypeCode: place descriptiveKeywords: MD_Keywords: keyword: Fish, watershed, whirling disease, decontamination, aquatic, infected, prevention, invasive species, waterbodies, salmonid, tubifex, Myxobolus cerebralis type: MD_KeywordTypeCode: theme resourceConstraints: MD_LegalConstraints: accessConstraints: MD_RestrictionCode: otherRestrictions otherConstraints: To access the data you must agree to the terms of the Open Government Licence - Alberta found at https://open.alberta.ca/licence resourceConstraints: MD_LegalConstraints: useConstraints: MD_RestrictionCode: license otherConstraints: Your use of this information will be governed by the terms of the Open Government Licence - Alberta, in force as of the date you accessed the information, found at https://open.alberta.ca/licence. resourceConstraints: MD_LegalConstraints: useLimitation: Distribution Liability: Under the terms of the Open Government Licence - Alberta, the Information is licensed as is, and the Information Provider excludes all representations, warranties, obligations, and liabilities, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Red Zones are HUC 10 watersheds that contain fish samples that tested positive for whirling disease, and Irrigation Red Zones (that apply only to man-made irrigation canals within the zone) are based on Irrigation Districts that are adjacent to Red Zones or known areas where the spread of whirling disease is high. source: LI_Source: description: The Hydrologic Unit Code Watersheds of Alberta collection of feature classes is intended to define hydrologic units that form a standardized baseline which covers the province of Alberta. Successively smaller hydrologic units are nested within larger hydrologic units to create hierarchal watershed boundaries. These standard units are based on sound hydrologic principles (flow direction) and have been reconciled between and within the feature classes that form the dataset. Existing high resolution watersheds or catchment polygons have been collated into larger watershed units to achieve the hierarchical, nested polygon dataset structure. sourceCitation: CI_Citation: title: Hydrologic Unit Code Watersheds of Alberta date: CI_Date: date: 2017-06-01 dateType: CI_DateTypeCode: publication citedResponsibleParty: missing source: LI_Source: description: The Irrigation District dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Irrigation Districts of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (former Agriculture and Rural Development) established under the Irrigation Districts Act to (a) convey and deliver water through the irrigation works, (b) divert and use quantities of water in accordance with the terms and conditions of its license, (c) to construct, operate and maintain the irrigation works and, (d) to maintain and promote the economic viability of the area. sourceCitation: CI_Citation: title: Irrigation Districts in Alberta date: CI_Date: date: 2018-09-11 dateType: CI_DateTypeCode: revision citedResponsibleParty: missing metadataMaintenance: MD_MaintenanceInformation: maintenanceAndUpdateFrequency: MD_MaintenanceFrequencyCode: notPlanned
