Description:
Abstract: This dataset contains the airshed boundaries for the province of Alberta. Air quality monitoring zones (airsheds) allow area stakeholders to identify specific air quality issues to be addressed through monitoring. There development was led in Alberta by the Clean Air Strategic Alliance. Air quality data collected by Alberta Environment, air quality management zones and Environment Canada are available electronically at the Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) data warehouse.
Purpose: The purpose of this dataset is to provide users with the boundaries of airsheds in the province. Many of Alberta's air quality issues are local, both in their cause and the solutions required. In these cases, province-wide approaches may not be appropriate or efficient. Air quality management zones provide an opportunity for local stakeholders to design local solutions to their concerns. The primary responsibility of a multi-stakeholder air quality management zone is to develop a management plan to deal with air quality concerns in the region. The issues are defined broadly, reflecting the vision and principles of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance. The success of a zone is largely dependent on the co-operation and dedication of all stakeholders including governments, industries, environmental organizations and the public. There are now eight air quality management zones providing data to the CASA Data Warehouse.
