Abstract: This grid dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the structure top of the Paskapoo Formation, which is the bedrock surface in the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. The Paskapoo Formation is a highly heterogeneous system. To satisfy the needs of a groundwater flow model, internal characterization of rock properties was necessary to partition the formation into three distinct geological domains. The Upper Composite Slice is the uppermost of these three domains. Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10 includes a full description of the process used to produce this structure grid.

dependent upon the location, well-log data density and geological horizon. The grid aims to capture 5 to

Deterministic Grid Alteration Information:
In the Sylvan Lake sub-basin the bedrock topography grid represents the top of the Paskapoo Formation
- Upper Composite Slice.
The bedrock topography grid (500 m cell-size) from DIG 2010-0037 was resampled to a 400 m cell-size
grid (i.e., the specified cell-size for the multi-layer hydrostratigraphic model) and clipped to the
Sylvan Lake sub-basin model domain. Geographic coordinates (x,y) as well as elevation data (z) were
sampled at each evenly-space grid node in ArcMap and exported into RockWorks15 for integration into
the full hydrostratigraphic model.
Algorithm used to interpolate data points: The top of the Paskapoo Formation - Upper Composite Slice
was re-interpolated in RockWorks15 at a 400 m cell-size node spacing using 'closest point' whereby a
grid node is set equal to the value of the nearest data point.
Modelling constraints applied: Limited manual manipulation of grids was performed. The Paskapoo
Formation - Upper Composite Slice was constrained to the land surface using the 25 m Provincial
Digital Elevation Model.
