Abstract: This GIS dataset is a GIS version of AGS Map 150, Sheets 1 - 6, as mapped at 1:250,000-scale by Bayrock and Reimchen. Digitizing was originally done by Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA). The data were supplied to AGS by PFRA in individual map sheets, in Arc/Info coverage format. Data were subsequently checked and edge-matched to create a single polygon coverage. Some rubber-sheeting and other edits were done during the checking and correction process.

Evaluation method description:
Sheet 3: 4 control points were used to register (georeference) the East half of the scanned image. The
resulting RMS error was 25 m on the ground(standard deviation =2.7). Examination of the registered image
against the provincial 1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the positional accuracy is better than
+/- 100 m. 5 control points were used to register (georeference) the West half of the scanned image. The
resulting RMS error was 19 m on the ground(standard deviation = 14.5). Examination of the registered
image against the provincial 1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the relative positional accuracy
is better than +/- 100 m. Sheet 4: 7 control points were used to register (georeference) the scanned map
image. The resulting RMS error was 42.5 m on the ground(standard deviation = 14.2). Examination of the
registered image against the provincial 1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the relative
positional accuracy is better than +/- 100 m. Sheet 2: 5 control points were used to register
(georeference) the scanned map image. The resulting RMS error was 13.3 m on the ground(standard
deviation = 5.5). Examination of the registered image against the provincial 1:250,000-scale hydrography
data indicates the relative positional accuracy is better than +/- 100 m. Sheet 5: 7 control points were
used to register (georeference) the scanned map image. The resulting RMS error was 39 m on the
ground(standard deviation = 20.8). Examination of the registered image against the provincial
1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the relative positional accuracy is better than +/- 100 m.
Sheet 6: Registration details were not recorded. Examination of the registered image against the
provincial 1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the relative positional accuracy is better than
+/- 100 m, west of the -114 degree meridian, and +/- 200 m on the East of it. Sheet 1: 11 control points
were used to register (georeference) the scanned map image. The resulting RMS error was 63 m on the
ground(standard deviation = 27.2). Examination of the registered image against the provincial
1:250,000-scale hydrography data indicates the relative positional accuracy is better than +/- 150 m.

Description:
Each of the 6 sheets comprising Map 150 were edited in separate coverages, then compiled into a single
coverage. For each sheet, an unfolded copy of the paper source map was scanned and georeferenced
into GeoTIFF format, using provincial 1:250 000-scale digital base data to register the image. In
some cases, it became apparent from the RMS errors obtained during registration that the original
map base appeared to have shifted or become distorted along the 114, 116, and 118 degree West lines
of longitude. Better results were obtained by registering the East and West portions of those maps
separately in order to obtain the desired positional accuracy of +/- 125 m on the ground (i.e. 0.5mm
on the page). Once a satisfactory GeoTIFF was produced, the PFRA-supplied linework was examined
against the registered image. If necessary, the coverage was rubbersheeted to align it better with
the map boundaries in the GeoTIFFs. Attribute values were checked by plotting the labeled polygons
at 1:250,000-scale and comparing them with the original published maps, examining them on a
township-by-township basis. Corrections/edits were made and the edited files were edgematched into
one seamless coverage.
