Abstract: This dataset is provided by the Ministry of Utilities and Affordability, Rural Utilities Branch, and represents rural low-pressure pipelines (less than 700 kPa) in Alberta that are under the jurisdiction of the Gas Distribution Act, including Gas Co-ops, First Nations, Municipalities and Counties, Private Systems, Apex Utilities Inc., and ATCO Gas Inc. The data is based on annual submissions of as-builts to Rural Utilities, Alberta Affordability and Utilities. The pipeline attributes include current status, type of pipe, and the contact information for each distributor. The linear data features contain: 1. Pipe material, 2. Status, 3. Year built, if known, and 4. The name of the natural gas distributor and general contact information for inquiries and requests.

This Dataset contains the following layers: Natural gas pipeline infrastructure data managed and operated
by the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd. Natural Gas Pipelines. This dataset was originally created
using Bentley MicroStation Versions 7 and v8i. The Feature classes were converted from MicroStation.dgn
to ESRI file geodatabase format by The Government of Alberta’s Affordability and Utilities Rural
Utilities Branch using Safe Software’s FME and ESRI Arc PRO editing tools. The converted dataset has
been projected to NAD 1983 10TM AEP Resource and can be displayed in WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary
sphere) web map format.

The Rural Utilities Gas Distribution Low Pressure Pipelines data set updated annually from the
Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops, Private Utility and Independent Utility owners, and Gas Franchise
owners. The data updates are submitted as new construction ESRI.shp, ESRI.gdb, or Bentley
MicroStation.dwg as-builts and verified and formatted for use in ESRI.gdb and Web Map format.
