Abstract:
The Significant Landforms of Alberta dataset contains significant (provincially, nationally or
internationally) geomorphic features within the province of Alberta, for distribution external to the
Government of Alberta. These data have been assembled by Alberta Parks, in collaboration with the Alberta
Geological Survey (AGS), with contributions from other subject matter experts in Alberta.
Purpose:
The intended usage of the Significant Landforms of Alberta dataset (download name 'Landforms of Alberta for
website') is to provide data for analysis by users external to the Government of Alberta for significant
geomorphic land features in Alberta. This dataset is provided for information and education only, there is
no requirement to consult this dataset for development, environmental review or any other review process.

Statement:
Attribute Accuracy Report: Identification of values have been completed by staff members of Alberta Parks
and Alberta Geological Survey (AGS), along with other scientists and subject matter experts in Alberta.
All attempts have been made to have data accurate as possible but data should be used at the user's own
risk.
Logical Consistency Report: This data has been put together via discussions and research with scientists
and experts. The classification system has been reviewed by members of the Alberta Geological Survey for
consistency.
Completeness Report: This dataset is considered partially complete - efforts have been made to capture
significant geomorphic features in Alberta but efforts should continue in perpetuity to ensure all data
features have been captured
Process Description: The data is edited by Alberta Parks staff from data submitted from a variety of
sources. Spatial data is edited via a shapefile in a network ArcGIS system. Attribute data is edited via
a relational database system. Data is joined to create 'landforms with attributes' and placed on the
network. That dataset is filtered and modified to create the 'landforms of alberta for website' file.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: Features interpreted from various imagery and other information
sources. Accuracy dependent on imagery source, ranging from approximately +/- 1m for orthophoto
imagery/LiDAR, to +/- 25m for less detailed imagery sources.
