Lineal road arcs which cross or intersect other road arcs within the same coverage are precisely joined at that point, forming a node at the junction. Nodes do not exist at the junctions of features in other coverages. Topology rules have been applied and validated to exclude errors such as duplicates, overshoots, undershoots, and overlaps in any of these features. All roads visible in the imagery are digitized, classified, and integrated within the provincial boundary of Alberta.Attribute information is populated at time of data collection and is reviewed by Government of Alberta staff to ensure the attribution correctly reflects the details in the imagery used for collection.Audit on selected townshipsIt is acknowledged that the positional accuracy of the data is dependent on the inherent accuracy and resolution of the imagery used, sufficient care and control of procedures used for feature interpretation and digitizing have been used to attain the "Positional Accuracy" identified below. Specifications for capture of features outlined below.
Divided Paved Road:
- Through on screen digitizing, points are captured which follow the centre lines of the two road surfaces when the centre lines are 24 m or greater in separation. The centre of the median is captured when the separation of the centre lines is less than 24 m in width. Points are captured which define end points, deflection points and curves.
Four & Two & One Lane Undivided Paved Roads:
- Through on screen digitizing, points are captured which follow the centre line of the road. Points are captured which will define end points, deflection points and curves.
Two & One Lane Gravel Roads:
- Through on screen digitizing, points are captured which follow the centre line of the road. Points are captured which will define end points, deflection points and curves.
Dry-Weather Road / Driveway / Winter Road / Interchange Ramp:
- Through on screen digitizing, points are captured which follow the centre line of the road. Points are captured which will define end points, deflection points and curves.
Ford-Winter Crossing / Ferry Crossing:
- Through on screen digitizing, points are captured coincident with the end points of the access which stops at the hydrographic edge.
Updates performed by contract work are returned to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas staff for review and audit. The NTDB includes features such as watercourses, urban areas, railways, roads, vegetation, and relief. The organizational unit for the NTDB is the National Topographic System (NTS), based on the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). Each file (data set) consists of one NTS unit at either the 1:50,000 or 1:250,000 scale. This is a legacy product and no longer used in Access Update program.
