Abstract: The dataset accompanies Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2009-01. The dataset contains the results of geochemical analyses of rock samples from the Bad Heart Formation, Clear Hills region and Smoky River region (northwestern Alberta) collected by Alberta Geological Survey from 2004 to 2007. The data comprise elemental analyses of 325 rock samples, including ooidal ironstone, ooidal sandstone, sandstone, siltstone, shale, Bad Heart rubble and till, and conglomerate.

Data quality info:

Data quality: Scope: Scope: Hierarchy level: Scope code: dataset Report: Completeness commission: Result: unknown Report: Completeness omission: Evaluation method description: All 325 samples ( including 7 duplicates )of analytical data are included in this dataset. Result: unknown Report: Conceptual consistency: Measure description: Duplicate analyses were performed on 21 samples to evaluate the precision of measurements. The duplicate pairs included samples split in the Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) lab and the duplicate prepared by ACME after pulverisation. The comparative results from 21 duplicate sample pairs and the average relative per cent difference (RPD) value, which is a measure for analytical precision for each element and oxide, are in Appendix 3 of the companion Open File Report 20090-01. Lower RPD values indicate higher levels of precision. The RPD for a duplicate pair is calculated by Where RPD = Relative Percentage Difference C1-C2 = Difference between two concentrations CAVG = Average of two values Alberta Geological Survey inserted standards into the sample set before shipping .There were 13 AGS standards (the AGS in- house standard is diorite gneiss reference standard SY-4) interspersed throughout the sample set in different batches of sample analysis. The SY-4 is supplied as powder, thus no processing is done at the lab. The data from AGS standards are tabulated in Appendix 3 of the companion Open File Report 2009-01. The average percentage recovery value, which is a measure of accuracy, is only included for AGS standard SY-4. The percentage recovery value is defined by Where CM = Measured concentration of the standard sample CA = Actual concentration of the standard sample Percentage recovery value near 100% indicates higher accuracy.
