ensure point locations coincide with the relevant railway arc in any of these features.

Statement:
Initially captured on paper maps as part of the Base Features 1:20,000 program in the early 1980s, this
data has been digitized and first became accessible as a digital product starting in 1998.
Specifications for capture of features outlined below.
Railway Point Event:
- The approximate location of the railway station point coinciding along the participating railway arc
feature.
Railway Bridge (Trestle) Event / Railway Spur Bridge Event:
- Through on screen digitizing, a point is captured at the centre of the bridge/trestle length coinciding
along the participating railway arc feature.
Railway Tunnel Event:
- Through on screen digitizing, a point is captured at the centre of the tunnel length coinciding along
the participating railway arc feature.
Supplementary data may be available, such as GNS (Alberta Geographic Names Program) or NRWN (National
Railway Network - GeoBase Series).
Updates performed by contract work are returned to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas staff for
review and audit. Approved data is loaded into repository.

The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) comprises digital vector data sets that cover the entire
Canadian landmass. The NTDB includes features such as watercourses, urban areas, railways, roads,
vegetation, and relief. The organizational unit for the NTDB is the National Topographic System
(NTS), based on the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). Each file (dataset) consists of one NTS
unit at either the 1:50,000 or 1:250,000 scale. This is a legacy product and no longer used in
Access Update program.
